Day 6 Shimla

On our way to Shimla, which is where we pick the bikes up and start our real adventure.
Firstly we had to get there. We arrive at the Delhi railway station, organised chaos is the only way to describe it. Tried to be conned as soon as we walked in, some guy saying the train had been cancelled. Mmmm I think not, one guy went with him, they said 800 rupees we will get you there, man they are triers. Just another experience, we have had a few and I am sure there will be more.
The train trip was ok, feed & watered. Some of the sights along side the tracks were interesting, people almost living on top of them, some in very basic houses, some small village tent like situations, very sad.
Off the train, into coaches, well more like big mini vans, and off we went, on our way to Shimla, we were straight into the hills, very steep windy hills in fact, along with the normal crazy Indian driving style, passing on blind corners with the horn blasting away, exciting. On the way up we came across a truck on it's side, it's load all over the road, a little car had hit a barrier, the windscreen was out of it where I would assume the drivers head had been through it. No one wears seat belts. Lucky the barrier was there as the drop off was maybe a 1000 feet down.
We settled in, had a few beers, had dinner, meet Atul the tour organiser, and did the required paper work.

Tomorrow we get a lecturer, from Atul, and a short bike ride. Then back to the hotel, maybe a look around Shimla, hopefully. Got bike number 10, burgundy & white, 2010 model. Pretty flash I reckon. Jon-Luke & I are the only 2 up riders, there are 18 bikes and there are about 6 women riding.

  1. Mate, sounds like you guys are certainly having an interesting time. I am certainly enjoying reading about your trip and seeing the sights. Not sure I'd be comfortable passing on blind corners etc....
